For most households their mortgage will be the largest debt of their lifetime. With home prices skyrocketing, households are taking on more debt to buy their dream home. The low interest rate environment seems to have given a false sense of security to many, especially young adults.

A lot of Millennials don’t consider their mortgage debt, according to a recent survey by Manulife. In fact, today’s adults are a lot more comfortable with debt than their parents were.

Tim Hortons, CIBC Partner Up to Launch New Double Double Visa Credit Card

Tim Hortons is hoping Canadian coffee drinkers will warm up to its newest credit card offering. Canada’s favourite coffee chain has partnered with CIBC to launch the “CIBC Tim Hortons Double Double Visa Card.” This credit card is as Canadian as it gets – “double double” is slang when ordering a coffee, indicating two creams and two sugars.

This is no ordinary credit card – the rewards credit card comes with physical buttons cardholders can press when making purchases. The credit card launch comes amid heavy competition from rivals McDonald’s and Starbucks, who have been chipping away at Tim Hortons market share in recent years.

Is It Worth Paying Your Property Taxes by Credit Card?

While Calgary may be shunning credit cards, Winnipeg is embracing them – at least partially. Although homeowners won’t be able to pay their property taxes directly to the City of Winnipeg by credit card, they can now use Plastiq, a third party service provider, to pay by credit card. This is similar to the service offered by Canada Revenue Agency to taxpayers, allowing them to pay their balance owing by credit card.
