Seafoam on the Beach

Not only is June 21st Father’s Day, it also marks the official start to summer. Summer is the perfect time to get outside and enjoy the nice weather. Just because you’re on a limited budget, doesn’t mean you can’t have fun. There are plenty of fun and frugal ways to enjoy the warmest season. Don’t forget to bring along your trusty credit card to earn rewards whenever possible.

Visit the Beach

Are you looking for the perfect way to soak up the sun on a hot summer’s day? Why not head to the beach? There’s nothing like enjoying the nice, cool breeze off of the lake. Be sure not to forget your swimming suit at home. There’s no better way to cool off than a dip in the water. The beach is also a great place to fly a kite. Be sure to wear lots of sun screen and don’t forget to reapply (you don’t want a sun burn). If you’re looking to indulge your taste buds, ice cream is the perfect way. Pay with your credit card and earn reward points while you’re at it.

Visit the Library

Are you looking for the perfect way to entertain your kids for less? Look no further than the public library. If you haven’t been to the library in a while, you don’t know what you’re missing. The library has a lot more than just books. It also has videos, CDs, audiobooks, computer games, and more. Just be sure to return your borrowed items on time, otherwise you could face late fines.

Festivals and Events

If you live in a big city like Toronto or Vancouver, there are plenty of festivals and events to enjoy during summertime. Best of all, a lot of the festivals and events are free (perfect for someone on a budget). Toronto has a host of festivals to enjoy during the summer months including Taste of the Danforth, Caribana and the Beaches Jazz Festival. Here’s a calendar of events happening in Toronto. If you live outside Toronto, just do a Google search for your city’s name and add “events” to see what’s happening in your area.

Backyard BBQ

If you live in a home with a spacious backyard, why not take advantage and hold a barbecue? A BBQ is a great way to catch up with your family and friends. Hosting a BBQ can be expensive, so instead of supplying all the food yourself, make it a potluck and ask guests to bring their own dishes. Don’t forget to use your credit card (responsibly) when buying food to earn rewards. Simply changing the way you pay for things can add to your bottom line. Who knows, maybe your guests will be nice enough to help you with the clean up afterwards.

Go on a Picnic

For some strange reason, foods seems to taste better outdoors. If you’re not lucky enough to live near the beach, why not go to the park and have a picnic instead? Picnics are a great family activity with the kids. Pack a lunch and some games and head to your favorite park.
