Guaranteed cards are great for individuals establishing residency in a new country, students just starting out on their own, or someone with a credit score that could use some improvement. A guaranteed card allows those who would not normally qualify for other types of credit a chance to build and improve their credit history.
Don't expect to to receive a huge credit limit when applying for these cards, since the credit card company will want to limit their risk while you build your credit with their guaranteed card. In addition, they may also require a security deposit and charge a significant annual fee in exchange for the opportunity to use their credit card. Only you can decide, but these costs may be a small price to pay to get your credit back on track.
Using the guaranteed card responsibly and making on-time payments will help you establish or repair your credit. If you keep up the good work you'll be on your way to a solid credit profile. Once established, additional offers will be available to you such as rewards and low rate cards.
