It's Christmas Eve day, and everything finally seems to be done for the holidays. But, as I look at the glittering tree, I think that it's time to take step back and think about something other than presents. Indeed, due to the economic times we live in, some have been downsizing Christmas and even waiting until January to celebrate.
Christmas isn't just a good time to give and receive presents; it's also a good time to evaluate your relationship with stuff. Yes, it's fun to open gifts -- and watch others open gifts from you. But are we as a society putting too much emphasis on things? Last year, we shared a great music video about Christmas and "enough":
It's a simple, heartfelt plea to consider what you have. You don't have to swear off Christmas presents and fun. However, it might worth it to consider what you do have already -- even if it isn't all stuff. Some things that you might be grateful for during the Christmas season might include:
- Family
- Friends
- Home
- Health
- Humor
- Nature (if you're outdoorsy)
