MasterCard and Visa Websites Attacked

Who would have thought the Wikileaks story would wake waves in the credit card pond?

Supporters of WikiLeaks launched a cyber attack against MasterCard and Visa on Wednesday, bringing down both websites. Customer accounts were not affected and no data was lost.

A group called Operation Payback claimed responsibility for the "denial of service" attack. Their Twitter account has since been suspended.

On Tuesday, both credit card companies stopped processing donations to Wikileaks. Pay Pal was targeted with a similar attack on Monday. The attacks are harmless, but disruptive.
