Online Spending Continues to Surge [Infographic]

As we head into the holiday shopping season, retailers are hoping that we are ready to spend some money. It looks promising: Last year online spending for Canadians surpassed $15 billion, most of it done using credit cards. A similar trend is happening around the world.

Online spending for Canadians has been steadily increasing for years, and it shows no sign of abating.  That means retailers have something to look forward to as the holidays approach.

High Street shopping seems to becoming a thing of the past. I hate dragging items around a town and when I see a product online I will buy it rather than walk around in the rain and spend more than is needed to.

What is the source of your data?

    Hi Janet,

Do you have a methodology for your numbers? Are they proprietary from creditcardscanada or do you use another information resource? I see the numbers reflect 2009- how are they tabulated? For example, where did you get the number of online orders placed?

    Thanks for your help.
