Creditors will attempt to collect the unpaid debt from the estate upon death. If there isn't enough in the estate to cover the debt, the creditor may try to collect from any joint account holder. However, if the joint account holder did not sign for any of the purchases of the outstanding debt, then they are not responsible for any payments.

Your situation may vary. As with any financial matter, it is wise to seek the guidance of a professional.
